AlaskaAlaska is the largest state in the United States. It is located at the northwestern tip of North America. Alaska has a very cold climate, with a small population and an economy centered around fishing, mining, and oil production. The native people of Alaska were mainly the eskimos. Russian fur traders colonized the area, then the land was sold to the United States in 1867, in a controversial deal known as Seward's folly, after Secretary of State William Seward, for $7.2 million. In retrospect it was a very good deal. |
