Conservatism

Political mindset characterized by a belief in individual responsibility and freedom resulting in a distrust of regulation and control by outside forces such as the government. This often brings them in opposition with Liberals. Despite the nomenclature, Liberals and Conservatives are not opposites. They just have different priorities. This allows individuals to agree with Liberals on some issues and Conservatives on others. Libertarians? are an extreme subset of conservatives. Conservatives in the USA tend to associate themselves with the Republican Party?.

A branch of the Conservatives are Christian Conservatives, who in contradiction to traditional Conservatives favor greater governmental involvement in shaping many social issues.
