Decolonization

Decolonization is a process where a great power grants independence to a colony. More specifically, it refers to Great Britain, France, and other countries giving up their colonies following World War II, because they became too expensive to maintain and the United States and the Soviet Union became the only superpowers.

India was granted independence soon after the war, but it wasn't until the 1970's that decolonization finished in Africa.
