Dieppe Raid

The Dieppe Raid was a special operation during World War II, where the Allies attempted to take a German port in an amphibious assault during the summer of 1942. The ground forces consisting of about 6000 men were predominantly Canadian.

The raid was a disaster, with about half of the attacking force being killed or captured. However, the lessons learned at Dieppe saved countless lives during the invasion of Normandy two years later.
