Hydrogen is an element. Each atom contains one proton and one electron.

Hydrogen can be used as a fuel?, and it has also been used in the past as a lighter-than-air substitute for helium in blimps?. In this role it has the disadvantage of being explosive. The Hindenburg? was a blimp that burned up because it was filled with hydrogen.
