Joseph Stilwell

Joseph Stilwell was an American general during World War II. He commanded American forces in India, China, and Burma for years, where his ascerbic personality earned him the nickname "Vinegar Joe".

He did not get along well with Chiang Kai-shek, who he regarded as more interested in fighting the Communists than the Japanese and also leading corrupt and incompetent officers. He referred to Kai-shek as "Peanut Head", due to his shaved head.

In October 1944, he was recalled by President Roosevelt. Later in the war, he served in the Battle of Okinawa.
