Poison Gas

Soldiers wearing gas masks

Poison Gas is a weapon used in industrialized warfare. It came into widespread use during World War I. Ever since then most countries have refused to use lethal forms of poison gas, considering them to be weapons of mass destruction.

The most common gasses used during World War I were chlorine gas?, mustard gas?, and phosgene gas?. Tear gas was also used to harrass the enemy and make soldiers panic and remove their gas masks.

Early gas masks? were nothing more than a moistened rag held over the mouth. Urine-soaked rags were sometimes used against chlorine gas because the chlorine was water-soluble and could be neutralized by urea.
