Rachael Ray knife wounds are wounds received to the hands of at least two participants on her show, particularly on May 4, 2009.
Incident
In a stunning display of carelessness, Rachel Ray encouraged four guests on her show to carve up cantaloupes as fast as they could, using large kitchen knives.
One of them cut his finger, and rather than stopping the race, she kept it going, with the camara zooming in on the injury.
Another racer also cut her finger before the cantaloupe section was completed, then they made hamburgers, bleeding on the food the whole time.
Afterwards, the Rachel Ray show provided first aid in the form of hand sanitizer and band-aids.
Safety issues
- Kitchen knives can inflict permanent and life-altering wounds, including nerve damage, to the hands of people using them in an improper and reckless manner.
- Knives should be respected, and racing and other sorts of games forbidden around them.
- Rachel Ray should apologize, and hold herself as an example to the world for proper knife usage. This should be regarded as a learning experience
- Food preparers who cut themselves should discard the food, excuse themselves, and seek proper first aid. This prevents the transmission of blood-borne diseases and reduces the chance of further injury or infection.
- The show should have cut to commercial at the first injury in order to prevent more injuries and to emphasize the importance of safety over ratings.
- The staff of the Rachel Ray show should be trained in proper first aid techniques for knife wounds, including cleaning them with running water over a sink
- Young people interested in knife safety should consider becoming involved in scouting
