YamatoThe Yamato, along with its sister ship the Musashi, was one of the two largest battleships ever built. It was constructed by Imperial Japan for use during World War II. The Yamato was considered too valuable to lose, and so was reserved for late in the war. It was sent on a suicide mission during the Battle of Okinawa, carrying just enough fuel to make it to the island. If it got into trouble, it was instructed to beach itself and continue fighting with its large guns. American dive bombers sank the ship before it got anywhere near Okinawa. |
