Yom Kippur War

The Yom Kippur War took place in 1973, when an Arab coalition led by Syria and Egypt made a surprise attack on Israel.

Israeli forces were thrown back on several fronts, but managed to stabilize and counterattack within several days. The result was an overwhelming Israeli victory, but the war is also remembered as a near-catastrophe in Israel due to the heavy casualties and early defeats.
