Encyc:Sources

Encyc:Sources

The information on Encyc is written by an anonymous group of volunteers. This crowd has a lot of prior knowledge and expertise, and they are willing to share it for nothing more than a note in the article history. To see where pieces of articles came from, use the "History" tab at the top of the article.

Encyc also gets information from other sources besides its own contributors, and attempts to credit sources whenever possible. This is for two reasons.

  1. It is the right thing to do. Intellectual property should be respected. The authors of ideas should get credit for their work. Encyc should direct interested readers to them whenever possible in the hopes that mutually agreeable relationships develop and that authors be rewarded for their work.
  2. Readers rightfully should not trust the information on Encyc and may want to investigate sources to get a fuller idea of where the ideas here have come from.

Encyc attempts to borrow from sources sparingly in the spirit of fair use and not to attempt to replace them as go-to experts.
