User talk:Killing spambots missed by others

I think I understand. Are you trying to say that it's important to keep the talk pages of spambots for some reason? Auggie 18:39, 6 March 2011 (UTC)

Not as such. It is important for an admin not to conceal the fact that someone's doing a good job on spambots and tackled one that was mysteriously not dealt with by that admin.--Killing spambots missed by others 21:25, 6 March 2011 (UTC)
Encyc admins have a limited amount of time in their day, and may prioritize getting rid of spam over other things. Your work is appreciated. Auggie 03:47, 7 March 2011 (UTC)
Nice to be appreciated! Were i ever to be an admin here, I should of course devote as much time as I could to important admin work like getting rid of spam. If I missed a spambot, I wouldn't waste time covering up that fact or trying to conceal the hard work of others.--Killing spambots missed by others 18:01, 7 March 2011 (UTC)
To be honest, there's not much point in marking them, or their talk pages, and there's not much point in even wasting mouse clicks on blocking them. They're one-off accounts, created on a separate proxy each. I originally blocked them in the hope that the autoblock would catch the next one to come along, but it doesn't :( Best thing, IMO, is not to mark anything and just let the sysops delete the pages as they happen. That way, there are minimal mouse clicks and time wasted on everyone's behalf, minimum log entries, and minimum disruption. On a larger wiki, I could see the benefit of tagging the pages for deletion, but not here. See Special:Allpages and thanks again for helping out ;) - Alison 18:10, 7 March 2011 (UTC)
Also, you can see that tagging the userpages is also clogging up RecentChanges, and is just creating meaningless userpages. This is why I deleted them last time. We all kinda know they're spambots & they're not even going to get blocked (why??) so tagging the pages is just needlessly taking up your time and energy. I tend to leave the pages redlinked or even delete them - not to 'conceal the hard work of others' but for tidiness sake - Alison 18:13, 7 March 2011 (UTC)

OK, I'll stop tagging the userpages, just note them on my userpage. But it is important to flag and wipe the spampages as quickly as possible. The spammers are trying to get the pages to be picked up by Google and to up the Google rating of the linked pages, and a few hours could make a difference. It would of course be better to delete the pages, but I realise that there aren't enough admins. Also, you need admins in several coutries to improve timezone coverage.--Killing spambots missed by others 18:02, 9 March 2011 (UTC)
