Why is this page called Community Portal? Is it some kind of door for the community? Or just to be consistent with Wikipedia? Why did Wikipedia name it that way? Emperor 18:49, 30 August 2008 (EDT)

Not really sure. You made the first edit. I just picked it out of the existing Encyc namespace pages. You're free to move it. I think the WP version has a lowercase "portal" anyway. //One 04:14, 31 August 2008 (EDT)
You're right. Looks like a MediaWiki thing. I think I started it to get rid of the red link on the left menu. Emperor 06:33, 31 August 2008 (EDT)

Archiving?[edit]

The Daily Zeitgeist[edit]

The current themes of The Daily Zeitgeist are: Hiatus and Hegira, Anomie and Acedia, Truth and Reconciliation, Satire, Parody, and Music Therapy.

However, what I really wanted to talk about today is Gregory Bateson's notion of the Double Bind.

A double bind is an emotionally distressing dilemma in communication in which an individual (or group) receives two or more conflicting messages, in which one message negates the other. This creates a situation in which a successful response to one message results in a failed response to the other (and vice versa), so that the person will be automatically wrong regardless of response.

The Daily Zeitgeist has been flush with instances of Bateson's Double Bind.

Discuss.

Hello...[edit]

Is anyone here. I came here from ED; wanted to help rebuild .online, but was too autistic. I am now in exile. I see that this encyclopedia has a similar wiki engine. Mind if I join? -Viril.Feline.Wyyzrd 1:24

Welcome. You are correct we have the same wiki engine as many other wikis. It is called Mediawiki. Our goal here is to write a general reference work similar to other great encyclopedias like Wikipedia and Encyclopedia Britannica. Learn more at Encyc:About. Tom (talk) 12:31, 3 May 2021 (CDT)
