Note the switches and lights on the front panel. The computer's daughter cards were plugged into the motherboard's bus.

The Altair 8800 was computer kit that enabled a savvy individual to build a computer.

The CPU in an Altair 8800 was an Intel 8080.

Like the larger computers, of the time, and unlike every personal computer that followed it, the Altair was equipped with a front panel with LEDs that echoed the contents of its address and data registers.
