Beyoncé Knowles, widely known simply as Beyonce, is a popular American singer-songwriter, widely seen as writing and singing songs of female empowerment.

Beyonce began performing as the lead singer of a group of young female singers, called "Destiny's Child" in the 1990s. Her father was her manager, and he also managed and controlled her band.

She released her first solo album in 2003.

She married Shawn Corey Carter, a popular rap singer, better known by his stage name, Jay-Z, in 2008, when he was 39, and she was 25.

She has won numerous music industry awards.
