Daneaxe

From Encyc
(Redirected from Dane-axe)
An axe similar to those shown in the Bayeux tapestry.
A footsoldier attacks a horse's head with his long daneaxe.[1]

A daneaxe was a two-handed weapon, with a long handle, used in the eleventh century.[2] Modern scholars believe its long handle made it a useful weapon for attacking the horses of mounted men.[1]

The Bayeux tapestry shows many footsoldiers carrying or using daneaxes.[3]
