Toaster

A toaster is a device for toasting a slice of bread, i.e. charring it slightly on both sides. This makes the bread into toast, which is warm and crunchy, which many people enjoy. It also makes slightly stale bread more edible.

The usual style of toaster is a box with one or two slots into which the bread is inserted. Electric radiant heaters then toast the bread. The heaters switch off and the bread pops up when the toasting is done. There is a knob to vary the amount of toasting depending on the type of bread and the user's preference on the amount of toasting. Stale bread requires less toasting than fresh bread, as there is less moisture in it. Brown bread may require more toasting than white bread.
