Sydney Sweeney to play Christy Martin[edit]
Actor Sydney Sweeney was cast to play Martin, and several publications have covered the physical training she underwent, to acquire more muscles to make her portrayal more realistic.[1][2][3][4][5][6]
Christy told reporters she was "elated" Sweeney would be portraying her.[7] She noted that Sweeney had some background in MMA, prior to taking the role, and that she would be happy to help coach the young actress.[3]
Other cast[edit]
Variety magazine named other cast members on September 30, 2024.[8] They include: Ben Foster, Merritt Wever, Katy O’Brian, Ethan Embry, Jess Gabor and Chad L. Coleman.
Foster portrays Martin's first spouse, James V. Martin, Christy’s jealous husband, who tried to murder her.[9] O'Brian portrays Martin's current spouse, Lisa Holewyne, Gabor portrays Sherry Lusk, Martin's clandestine high-school sweet-heart, who she fell in love with again, while married to Martin. Coleman portrays famous boxing promoter Don King. Wever and Embry play Martin's parents.[10]
