Louis Kentner

Louis Kentner (born Lajos Philip Kentner, 19 July 1905 - 21 September 1987) was a Hungarian pianist.

He studied at the Liszt Academy in Budapest, one teacher being Zoltan Kodaly. He made his concert début in Budapest at the age of 15; he was awarded a Chopin prize, Warsaw, and a Liszt prize, Budapest.

Fleeing to Britain in 1935, he became a British citizen in 1946. He was noted for his performances of Hungarian music, especially the concertos of Franz Liszt and Bela Bartok. He frequently performed duets with Yehudi Menuhin.

He was president of the Liszt Society from 1965 and of the European Piano Teachers Association from 1978.
