Vuvuzela

From Encyc

The Vuvuzela is an instrument which looks like a trumpet. It is produced in South Africa and is used widely there.

It produces a sharp sound which resembles the "bzzz" of a flying bee.

The vuvuzela gained notoriety in the western world in mid-2010 when it was used by many people during matches of the Soccer World Cup 2010, held in South Africa. The loud noise led to objections from players, spectators and broadcasting companies.

It has been attested that some vuvuzelas can produce a noise at a level of 127 decibels, which could potentially damage eardrums.
