2010s (decade)

From Encyc

The 2010s was a decade that began in January 1st, 2010 and ended in January 1st, 2020. Some feel that the early 2010s was completely different then the late 2010s.

Early 2010s[edit]

The early 2010s lasted from 2010-2012. It was heavily influenced by late-2000s culture and ideals. Windows XP and Windows 7 were the two most popular operating systems, skeuomorphism was still "in" and Youtube was less corporate. Minecraft experienced a boom in popularity.

Mid 2010s[edit]

The Mid 2010s encompasses the period between 2013 and 2015. Russia had annexed Crimea, politics had yet to become extremely polarized as the 2016 election had not occurred yet and Trump had not announced his presidency. The mid 2010s was characterized by the rise of flat design, and the decrease in popularity of Facebook and Twitter in favor of newer social media platforms such as Instagram and Snapchat. Vine was also created during this period.

Late 2010s[edit]

The late 2010s was characterized by the rise of Trump. Politics became extremely polarized. Flat design became the norm, and Youtube was criticized for having become more subservient to other big corporations. Minecraft declined in popularity, and Roblox became quite popular around 2016. Social democracy and socialism began to rise in popularity, as a result of Trump's antics. In 2017, Fortnite became extremely popular (and was mocked by many who had grown up during the 1990s/2000s), and in 2018, the Democrats would win the House of Representatives in the 2018 mid-term elections, and new investigations against Trump began.
