The Administrative divisions of Nepal consist of the country's subnational units. The primary level of subdivision in Nepal is the province. Each province is further divided into districts, which are subdivided into municipalities and rural municipalities, and then into smaller units called wards. Prior to 2015, Nepal was divided into developmental regions and administrative zones rather than provinces.
In line with the 2015 constitution of Nepal, the previous system of municipalities and villages—of which there were over 3,900—was restructured into 753 new municipalities and rural municipalities. Similarly, the 75 former district development committees (DDCs) were replaced by 77 district coordination committees (DCCs), though the DCCs have significantly reduced authority compared to the DDCs. Currently, Nepal is home to 6 metropolitan cities, 11 sub-metropolitan cities, 276 municipalities, and 460 rural municipalities.
