Aluminum (aluminium outside the USA) is a metallic element. It is the most common metal in the earth's crust. It is lightweight and strong, and used to make things like aircraft and beverage cans. Aluminum ore is called bauxite.

Smelting aluminum is a very energy-intensive process. Aluminum recycling has become a profitable economic activity in addition to being good for the environment.
