Archtop guitar

An archtop guitar is a type of guitar constructed similarly to violins, with a curved front and back and f-holes instead of a traditional sound hole. They were developed by Gibson starting in the 1890's in response to a need for louder guitars in big band settings. In the 1930's they were among the first guitars to be electrified.
