Ashur-resh-ishi II
Ashur-resh-ishi II (inscribed Aššur-reš-išī, lit. "Ashur has lifted my head") was a king of Assyria during the Middle Assyrian Empire period, ruling a brief five-year reign from approximately 972 to 967 BC. He was the son and successor of the long-reigning but beleaguered king Ashur-rabi II.
His short time on the throne occurred during a period of significant difficulty and contraction for the Assyrian kingdom, marked by territorial losses to the expanding Arameans and potential famine in the Assyrian heartland. The period between the collapse of the Bronze Age and the rise of the Neo-Assyrian Empire saw a general decline in the production of royal inscriptions and detailed historical records, making information about his specific rule very scarce.
Ashur-resh-ishi II was succeeded by his son, Tiglath-Pileser II, who continued the royal line in what remained of the Middle Assyrian Kingdom.
