Balearic Islands

From Encyc
The red islands are the Balearic Islands.

The Balearic Islands, Majorca, Minorca, Ibiza, and some smaller islands, are an archipelago in the western Mediterranean, off the coast of Spain.

In classical times the men of the Balearic Islands were known for their expertise in using slings, as weapons, during warfare. The name given to the archipelago reflects their expertise, as it has the same root as ballistics.

The archipelago is now a province of Spain. The Catalan language is spoken there.
