Basketball

basketball is a fast-moving and energetic team sport which can be played on a small court or playing field.[1]
The game is played between teams of five players. Unlike football, where teams kick a ball into a goal, basketball players score by throwing a ball into a small net, called a "basket".[1] Players are not allowed to carry the ball, instead they bounce the ball, with one hand, as they move over the court -- called "dribbling". Players are not allowed to make body contact, like in football, or ice hockey, so dribbling provides an opportunity for opposing players to intercept the ball.
When it was first played, actual baskets used for harvesting fruit were used.[1]
After a ball has been thrown at a net players from both sides seek to be the first to gain control of the ball. If a player from the other team gains control, they will try to race to the other end of the court to sink a basket in the other team's net. Teams can sink over a hundred baskets in a single game.
The games creator was James Naismith.[1]

Searching for a way to utilize the school’s gymnasium during the winter months, physical education director Dr. Luther Gulick tasked James Naismith with establishing a game that could be played indoors. His only instructions were to “make it fair for all players, and free of rough play.” On 21 December 1891, the first game of basketball was played at Springfield College. Naismith was posthumously inducted to Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame.
