Battle of Dien Bien Phu
Appearance
The Battle of Dien Bien Phu took place in Vietnam in the 1950s. The French were attempting to hold onto their colony of Indochina and so they took remote position in the mountains, and attempted to supply it by air. The idea was to take the war to the enemy and to interdict their supply lines. They did not expect that the Vietminh would be able to transport artillery through the mountains to be able to bombard their position. Although the French fought valiantly, they were outnumbered and outgunned. The defeat was a catastrophe for them, which ended the French empire in Indochina.
