The Battle of Al Hillah was a military confrontation between United States and Iraqi forces during the 2003 Invasion of Iraq. Before the Iraq War, the historic city of Al Hillah housed several bases belonging to the Iraqi Medina division of the Republican Guard. Given that a key objective of the invasion was to neutralise the Republican Guard, Al Hillah became a crucial target for Coalition forces. Additionally, the city lay along the Coalition’s planned route towards Najaf, further emphasising its strategic importance.
