Battle of Midway
The Battle of Midway was the turning point of the Pacific theater during World War II. Six months after the Attack on Pearl Harbor, the American and Japanese fleets met off the island of Midway in the central Pacific, west of Hawaii. Americans had superior intelligence and were rejoined by the USS Yorktown, which had been repaired quickly. The Japanese were caught by surprise and their carriers were sunk. They lost their numerical advantage over the United States Navy and were never able to regain parity.
