Bernard Montgomery
Bernard Montgomery was a British general during World War II, most famous for his victory over Erwin Rommel and the Afrika Korps at the Battle of El Alamein. He later led Allied ground forces during the invasion of Normandy and the northern shoulder of the Allied defense at the Battle of the Bulge.
He was the mastermind behind Operation Market Garden.
Although usually successful, he was criticized for being too slow and methodical, and also for being undiplomatic and attention-seeking in his comments to the press.
