Bitcoin is the original cryptocurrency and is still the most popular. It is powered by proof of work, with mining by computers solving complicated problems.

The price went down last year after reaching an all-time high of around $60,000 per bitcoin. At one point it went down to near $15,000, but now it is back up above $30,000 as of late 2023.
