Blue giant star
Appearance
In Astronomy the term blue giant star applies to young, massive, luminous stars that are in their hydrogen fusing period, and are on the main sequence.
The Spica system, 250 lightyears from the Solar system, contains two blue giant stars that are the nearest to our Solar system.[1][2][3]
All stars more massive than Sol, our sun, are brighter than Sol, because the intensity of the Hydrogen fusing in their core has to balance their greater mass.[4]

Both the stars that we know make up Spica are larger and hotter than our sun. And they’re separated by only 11 million miles (less than 18 million km). That’s not much more than 10% of the distance between Earth and our sun (93 million miles or 150 million km). They orbit their common center of gravity in only four days.

Spica is a binary star system with two blue main sequence stars. They orbit so close to each other that their shapes are distorted.

Spica is an bright blue star and is the brightest star in the constellation Virgo. It is approximately 230 light-years away from Earth. Its luminosity, or brightness, is over 500 times that of our sun.
