Bob Hawke

From Encyc

Bob Hawke was the 23rd Prime minister of Australia. He was defeated by Paul Keating in his own party, soon after he had agreed to go to war in Iraq, against popular opinion. This was seen by many as Bob Hawke's parting gift, that would make a mockery of the suffering of the wool crisis and ensure that Paul Keating would lose at the next election (which he did). Without this parting gift, USA would never have been able to justify going to war with Iraq, and subsequently there probably would not have been a 9/11 or Al Qaeda and the world today would be a much safer place.
