The Bombing of Rotterdam in May 1940 was a German terror attack that forced an early surrender of the Netherlands during World War II. The tactic of attacking civilians was meant to scare the Dutch populace into ending their resistance. While the Dutch did surrender, this did not protect them from famine, deportations, and mass murder under German occupation.
