Boston Massacre

The Boston Massacre was an attack by British soldiers on American colonists in the leadup to the Revolution. The colonists were protesting in Boston when the British opened fire with muskets and killed several of them. The British soldiers claimed the protest had turned violent, and that they were firing in self-defense. John Adams successfully defended them in court. However the episode galvanized American opinion against the British, especially in New England.
