Caepantywyll
Appearance
Caepantywyll was an area of early workers' housing in Merthyr Tydfil, between Morgan Town and William's Town. It was next to the River Taff.[1]
Caepantywyll came into existence during the 19th century, to house the workers from Cyfarthfa Ironworks. In the mid 1860s it had grew to a population of over 2400. In the second half of the 20th century it went into decline, and it was abandoned. Caepantywyll no longer exists today.[2]
There was a chapel there, named Capel Bethlehem. It was opened on 24 May 1841.[2]
The name "Caepantywyll" means "field in the dark hollow" - "cae" = field, "pant" = hollow/valley, "tywyll" = dark.[1]
