Cave

A cave is a natural tunnel in soil or rock.

Volcanic processes can leave caves, due to the venting of hot gas, or when newly deposited liquid magma, freezes, then shrinks as it cools, leaving cracks.

Other caves are left in porous rock, as water flows through it. Some porous rock can be dissolved by flowing water that carries in it impurities that make the water acidic.
