Charl van Niekerk is a Canadian expert in transportation.[1] He has held senior positions in Infrastructure Ontario, the Windsor–Detroit Bridge Authority and Metrolinks.
Van Niekerk earned degrees in Civil Engineering and Business Leadership, in South Africa.[2]
Van Niekerk was chair of the Windsor–Detroit Bridge Authority until February 2026, when President Donald Trump accused Canada of trying to cheat the US over the tolls the agency was planning to charge, when the Gordie Howe Bridge opened.[1]

Before his time with the WDBA, van Niekerk worked as an executive president at Infrastructure Ontario, where he helped oversee delivery of provincial highway, subway and rail projects, including Windsor’s Herb Gray Parkway, which connects Highway 401 to the new border crossing.

Mr. van Niekerk holds a Bachelor in Civil Engineering from the University of Pretoria and a Master in Business Leadership from the University of South Africa.
