Chesapeake Bay

From Encyc

The Chesapeake Bay is a large bay in the eastern United States that is mostly surrounded by Maryland and Virginia. It is fed by the Susquehanna River and the Potomac River, among others. Baltimore is located there. It is of economic importance because of the transportation it allows and because of the fisheries, including crabs, molluscs, and fish.

It leads to the Atlantic Ocean through a narrow part between the tip of the DelMarVa Peninsula and Norfolk, Virginia. The Chesapeake Bay Bridge spans this gap.

Although threatened by pollution and overfishing, the Bay has been recovering somewhat in recent years.
