Lynch's idiosyncratic style

While Lynch directed some films that seemed conventional, like the 1984 Dune, other film and television work, like Twin Peaks, Blue Velvet and Mulholland Drive, are celebrated for being cerebral challenges for viewers.^[1]

Health

Lynch suffered from serious health issues in his later years.^[2] Lynch, who started smoking when he was 8 years old, was diagnosed with emphysema in 2020. Lynch said he struggled to quit smoking for the next two years, finally quitting in 2022.^[3]^[4] Lynch died on January 15, 2025.^[3]^[4] The exact cause of his death was not immediately released. News of his passing was met with praise for his influence from across the film industry.^[1]^[5]
