Dehumidifer drain hose

From Encyc

A dehumidifier drain hose is a hose used to drain water from a dehumidifier to a drain, sump, or out of the house.

Dehumidifiers draw water from the air, which then needs to be removed from the building. Using a hose eliminates the need to empty buckets.

Commercially-made dehumifier hoses are available and usually run a little less than ten bucks.

A dehumidifier drain hose can be made using off-the-shelf components from your local hardware store. Here is an example.

  • Hose End Mender 1/2" Female (e.g. GreenThumb Hose End Mender, 1/2", solid brass)
  • Clear vinyl tubing, 1/2" internal diameter, at desired length.

Attach the hose to the hose end mender. There is no need to use pliers to clamp down the lock unless you want the extra security. Attach to dehumidifier and check periodically, especially the first few hours and days. Some dehumidifiers are difficult to attach hoses to. The male threaded portion may not allow the hose to get close enough. If this is the case, add an extra hose washer inside.

Due to the high quality solid brass connector, this hose should outlast others. It also has the added advantage of a clear tube, so that water-outflow can be easily monitored.
