A diamond is a gem that is made from coal that is under the earth at high pressure for a very long time. Diamonds are rare and very valuable. They can be cut into various shapes. Light acts uniquely when it goes through a diamond.
Diamond cutters and jewelers have invented a grading system to help market diamonds and help buyers select the best one for their purposes.
Color - D is highest = colorless, higher letters equal more color. There is no A,B, or C.
Clarity - F - flawless, IF - internal flawless, VV something,VG, SI, I
Cut - round, princess, cushion, etc.
Pink diamonds and black diamonds have impurities but can sometimes command a premium.
