Dieppe Raid
The Dieppe Raid on August 19, 1942 was an Allied attack on occupied Dieppe, France. Around 6000 troops, mostly Canadian, along with tanks landed with a mission to gather intelligence and destroy infrastructure. The raid was a failure with over half the force killed or captured, but it was an important learning experience for the Allies and led to the success of the Normandy landings almost two years later.
