Electric power equation

Electric Power equation:
P = I * V

Using Ohm's Law, V = I * R, one can substitute for I or V.

P = I^2 * R (Joule's Law)

P = V^2 / R

Variables:

  • P is power, measured in watts. 1 watt = 1 Joule/second
  • V is voltage, measured in volts.
  • I is current, measured in amperes or "amps".
  • R is resistance, measured in ohms.
