Electron
Electrons are negatively charged sub-atomic particles. They surround the nucleus of atoms. The classical picture is that they move around in orbitals very, very fast. However, quantum mechanics shows that an electron cannot be located precisely and may be anywhere in the vicinity of the nucleus.
They were discovered by Sir Joseph John Thomson in 1897.
