Encyc:A rational for revenue sharing

From Encyc

A wiki such as this could be a non-profit wiki.

However, potentially a fairly public wiki could exists that intends to be an encyclopedia-like work and also be _for profit_ and perhaps also exist in a way which will motivate and energize others to contribute in a meaningful way.

This could have revenue sharing.

Suppose, totally hypothetically, that this wiki was the 8th most visited website on the Internet.

Suppose Encyc got 182 300 976 (1) page views a day and using Google Adsense had a .02% (.0002) click through rate and earned 10 cents for each click.

182 300 976 * .0002 = 36 460.1952

This would mean that Encyc could have 36,460.2 clicks a day. Then the Adsense account would earn 3,646.02 dollars a day, or 1 330 797.3 a year.

______These numbers cannot be right. That seems like too little revenue. ________

Suppose there were 20 contributors and they all divided the money between themselves. They would each make like 50000 dollars a year.

20 contributors could not author and edit an Encyclopedia that would be this popular.

...

Conclusion: This will need more thought.

1. this is about how many page views the big wiki might get a day (see http://stats.wikimedia.org/EN/Sitemap.htm [7 595 874 x 24 = 182 300 976 ])
