Exoplanet

An exoplanet is a planet outside of the solar system.^[1] There could be millions of exoplanets in the Milky Way. There could be billions of exoplanets in the Universe.

As of July 2026^[update] over 6,000 exoplanets have been discovered.^[1] In July 2026 LHS 1140 b, a super-Earth orbiting a red dwarf star, 40 lightyears away, was the first rocky planet, in its star's habitable zone, to be found to have an atmosphere.
