Factor V Leiden deficiency

From Encyc

Factor V Leiden deficiency is a common misdiagnosis made by many physicians in confusing the two opposing diagnoses, Factor V Leiden and Factor V deficiency, in relation to a diagnoses of thrombophilia [1].

Factor V deficiency is an inherited disorder, in which the clotting factor V is low. A bleeding problem results. The disorder is very rare, occurring in only one in 1 million people.

Factor V Leiden is not a disease, it is the presence of a particular gene that is passed on from your parents.

Factor V Leiden is a variant of the protein Factor V (5) which is needed for blood clotting. People who have a Factor V deficiency are more likely to bleed badly while people with Factor V Leiden have blood that has an increased tendency to clot. [2]
