Faircloth Amendment
Appearance
The Faircloth Amendment is an amendment to the Housing Act of 1937, and indefinitely caps the units of public housing units in the United States, "owned, assisted, or operated", but housing authorities to the levels present on October 1st 1999.
The amendment was advanced by a Republican Congress and signed by the Democratic president Bill Clinton. The amendment's intent was to discourage new units of public housing, but federal funding shortfalls since the amendment did that rather than the amendment itself. Despite this, the Faircloth Amendment is cited by public housing advocates as a critical piece of legislation to repeal in order to expand public housing in the USA.
